    The "Funding Opt." Team has pull together a WONDERFUL resource guide concerning funding sources that we can/should use to "go after" additional funding opportunities.  All you have to do to see the guide is to "click":

    "Funding Opportunities for Deaf Ed. Teacher Preparation Programs"

I would encourage interested individuals to conact a member of the Funding Opt. Team (see the end of this file) for more information regarding any of the identified sounces.  I would  also encourage you to work with a team member in the design and submission of the subsequent grant proposals.

The Team has done us all a GREAT service by developing this guide for us, now all we have to do is use it!

    Members of the Goal #5 team are reviewing the prospectus, Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to Use  Technology, A Guide to Technology Funding Opportunities. Members will be examining basic concepts, procedures, and tasks. Following this review, suggested changes will be considered and tasks assigned.  In addition to reviewing the prospectus, work is progressing on the identification of funding sources. As of

            Preparing Tomorrow’s Teachers to Use Technology Project A Guide to Technology Funding Oportunities

     Introduction

            As part of the Preparing Tomorrow’s Teachers to Use Technology Project, Goal #5 team members have been working on a number of activities relating to the identifcation of funding opportunities relating to technology. These activities are as follows:

This document addresses each of these. When it is completed and presented at ACE-DHH in New Orleans it will contain information that can be used by individuals or by groups.

Activity #1: Identify sources of grant information

    One of the primary tasks of Goal #5 was to get information about foundations or other sources that might possibly be interested in funding aspects of the Technology Project. In so doing the team developed a search strategy that sought to identify major funding sources. This strategy included an examination of print documnets as well as web site sources. As a result of this strategy, the team identified the following sources; [See Appendix A for details]

    As part of this activity, Goal #5 team members developed an information sheet showing critical information about a foundation. This information sheet was designed using a matrix format. Included in this matrix were the following:

The finished version of this information sheet was then used when information was collected and complied.

Activity #2: Use source or sources to develop lsit of likely grant opportunities

    In addition to identifying major funding sources, the search strategy included the establishment of funding opportunities categories. Goal #5 team members identified ten funding opportunities categories:

These ten funding opportunities categories were created in order to facilitate the work of the team, as well as to make the end product useful.

    While the search strategy focused on the identification of major funding opportunity sources, the establishment of funding opportunity categories, and the collection of data for the information sheets, it recognized that some other important issues would need to be addressed at a later date. Specifically, the team did not address issues relating to specific uses of funds made availalbe by funding agencies; that is, the team did not attempt to identify if funds could be used for start-up cost, capital cost, maintenance costs, and so on.

Activity #3: Collect and evaluate information about each grant opportunity

    As of this date [October 20, 1999] the funding opportunity categories have been identified and Goal #5 team members have been assigned a category or categories as shown in Table I.

The task for each team member is to investigate their respective funding opportunity category or categories and in so doing complete two assignments: first, to identify specific funding sources and second, complete the information sheet for those sources that are future funding opportunity targets for this project.

    Gaol #5 team members have been reviewing funding opportunities on the web and elsewhere. One thing that is apparent is that a useable form needs to be developed so that we can review infomration and make it availalbe to others. One idea is as follows:

   Purpose - Target Area - Application Process - Deadline - $$ - Restrictions - Other

    Advantages of the above relate to making pertinent information available to aas many individuals as posible through the CED web page. If this model is used, indivduals can visit sites as soon as they appear on the web page. If an individual or group is interested, necessary steps can be taken to dfevelop needed project/organization descriptions.

  3. Meeting with a representative of the Office of Sponsored Programs at Idaho State University to review the above search strategy and examine non-web site sources.
It is anticipated that by October 1, 1999, Goal #5 Team will have completed the #1 and #2 and that the Team Leader will have a search strategy report ready for discussion.

Goal #5 team memebrs are interested in talking with others who might be interested in joining, Goal #5.

Objectives:

    A "Support Development Team" will be established to identify, evaluate and share possible consortium, foundation, state and federal grant opportunities that can be used to sustain and expand project activities. The team will be composed of 3-4 D/HH Education faculty members who have expressed a particular interest in this project activity. The team will: a) identify sources of grant information; b) use those sources to develop a list of likely grant opportunities for project related activities; c) secure and evaluate in-depth information from each of those likely sources; d) rank order the resulting list of likely grant opportunities in relation to probability of success and grant submission dates and e) share the resulting grant information at the 2000 ACE-D/HH conference and on the CED Web site.

Outcome:

    Grant opportunities that can be used to extend and expand project activities will be identified, evaluated and shared.
