What is a listserv anyway?
Why would you want to join a listserv?
If you have a hobby or area that you have an interest in and if you could benefit from the opinions and advice from other people with the same interests, then joining a listserv dedicated to such a group would be a great benefit to your personal and/or professional growth.
Description of a listserv
A listserv is a mailing list that you can join and contribute to. An example of a traditional mailing list that you might belong
to is your local teachers' association. The main features of this mailing list are as follows:
- You join the list (by paying your dues)
- You periodically find mail (in your mail box at school) about topics pertinant to the list (the members of the group)
- You can contribute (to the editor) information that you want others in the group to know about
- Your information appears in the mail that everyone gets in their mail box
A listserv is an electronic version of a mailing list. The primary difference between the above example and a listserv
is that on a listserv everything is done using e-mail (electronic mail).
