Expression of Genetic Potential
In the following diagrams the letters “A” and “a” are used to note the locus of a gene that is responsible for a trait (such as hearing acuity).
The presence of the “A” gene then would indicate the presence of the trait of hearing.
- This gene is said to be dominant.
The presence of the “a” gene then would indicate the potential presence of a hearing loss. Two genes are needed for expression.
- This gene is said to be recessive.
