The tests created by the publishers by most textbook companies may contain
vocabulary that is not suitable for some deaf and hard of hearing students. It is therefore,
necessary for the teachers of these students to design assessment strategies of their own. The
following is a compilation of different evaluative measures.
Assessment Strategies
- Tests
- -teacher made
- -publisher made
- Informal
- -observation
- -checklist
- Work sheets
- Lab Reports
- Computer
- -checklist
- -rubric (sample)
- Journal
- -dialogue journals (a written discussion between peers or the teacher)
- -learning logs (record of what you have learned)
The incorporation of different assessment tools for one project may be necessary. As
a result, a creative assortment of assessments exist to accommodate for individual student's
language ability. These assessments are not specifically used in deaf education, but are common
to all educational situations.
