It is important to understand that just because a child is deaf, that a parent shouldn’t feel they need to become anything more than a parent. What is important for the Deaf child is to have a full time language model that encourages them to develop as normally as possible in a loving ,atmosphere conducive for their learning. When the parent takes on the role of the teacher they tend to confuse both the child and themselves on the role their supposed to have in the interactions. As an educator we should show the parents positive ways to encourage language development in their child by introducing them to Deaf parents of deaf children. By creating this connection we are giving the hearing parent a positive model of ways to help their child succeed.
