Placement on the salary schedule is dependent upon academic preparation and professional experience (nationally competitive).

Term of Employment:
 Nine-month position with a teaching load of 12 semester units each semester.


  1. Academic Preparation:  An earned doctorate in Deaf Education or closely related field is required. Candidates nearing completion of their doctorates (ABD) may be considered for a lectureship (temporary position) with the possibility of conversion to tenure track.
  2. Teaching or Other Professional Experience:  CED professional level certification; ability to relate well with an increasingly diverse student body and faculty, and three years of successful teaching experience with deaf and hard-of-hearing children in the area of speech and aural rehabilitation are required.  Demonstrated, or potential for, teaching effectiveness at the university level, scholarly productivity, and the ability to utilize and plan for the use of technology in instruction are required.  A track record in, or potential for, development of grant proposals and attracting external funding is desirable.  The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Summary of Work and Responsibilities:
Specific Position Characteristics:  Teach speech, aural rehabilitation, and/or school subjects coursework at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and supervise clinical practicum in a Deaf Education curriculum with a comprehensive philosophy.  Our department coursework prepares students to teach in oral, cued speech, total communication, ASL and bilingual/bicultural programs for the deaf and hard-of-hearing students and emphasis using state-of-the-art instructional technology. The successful candidate may be called upon to teach in a distance education mode.  The successful candidate will be expected to work cooperatively with faculty and staff in the department and college.
