Essential Assessment Protocols
The following statements
are essential assessment protocols that will be useful when I begin to
teach. Assessment is an important aspect of teaching. Teachers need to
have a variety of assessment protocols to be able to assess the diverse
students in their classroom. The essential assessment protocols that I
plan to use when I begin to teach are bulleted below.
My Essential Assessment Protocols:
I hope to assess the success of the activities used in a lesson by assessing
students' responses to the activities
by observing the students to see if they gained any knowledge from the
I will use worksheets and other materials at the end of the lesson to see
if the students understood the lesson (J., Alexsonshk, personal communication,
I plan to use a form of an informal assessment at the end of a unit to
see if students understood the unit. (J., Alexsonshk, personal communication,
I plan to use a teacher made criterion referenced test at the end of the
unit to assess the students'
understanding of the unit (J., Alexsonshk, personal communication, October
During reading lessons, I will give periodic quizzes to see if the students
are comprehending what they are reading. (J., Alexsonshk, personal communication,
I will use assessment as a tool to recognize individual diversity of learning
in the students and allow for those differences in styles and rates of
learning, and teach to those differences. (Bredekamp and Rosegrant 1995)
I will use progress reports to keep parents informed of their child's
progress throughout the term. (E., Wheaton, personal communication, February
I feel that assessment is
a very important part of teaching. Assessment is used as a method of assigning
grades and checking to see how students are doing on a specific concept.
Assessment can also be used to determine current levels of functioning
and to help plan the curriculum. I plan to use the above stated assessment
protocols when I begin to teach. I am sure that this list will change and
become much larger once I become a master teacher in the field.
