I am teaching ASL class at University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I am going to distribute ASL signs or fingerspelled words for states. Please check those list to see if I am doing right for each states..

I put (sign).. It means that we usually sign the state.

It may be regional only -- but coming from New England originally (now in NYC), I believe Maine is a sign, not spelled... (I am not great at explaining ASL - but will try :) "F-handshape over heart in up motion"

Maybe someone could agree or disagree on this one?

Mississippi MISSISSIPPI (?) Here in TX we usually just use the sign for STATE, then MISS

Florida FLA We use a sign, similar to cheap, but using the F Handshape ( and not we are NOT implying that Floridians are *cheap* so no flames please.)
