Arrangements for ACE-DHH Conference in Banff

Upon your arrival in Calgary on Friday, February 24, someone from ACE-DHH, probably a student from Mary Ann Bibby's program will meed you under the blue sign that states: MEETING PLACE C. This is immediately to your left as you come out the door after having gone through customs. Her welcoming committee will assist you with your plans for getting to the Banff Springs Hotel. You will have several options:

Option 1: For those who will be arriving late Thursday or Friday and are too tired to travel immediately to Banff, you can stay at the Chateau Airport Hotel. It is right inside the airport and we have been given a room rate of $99 (Canadian) per night, single or double. You can make reservations by calling 800/441-1414 or 403/291-2600.

Option 2: You can rent a car at the airport. Don Currie, at DOLLAR CAR RENTAL, has given ACE-DHH this incredible rate of $28 (Canadian) per day for a mid-size car with unlimited mileage. You can reserve a car by calling 403/269-3777 or faxing your reservation at 403/269-3853. Ski racks can be attached to your car and will be complimentary. Don is also giving ACE-DHH a really good deal on a van as long as members rent their cars from Dollar. Parking at the Banff Springs Hotel is $6.50 (Canadian) per day and gas is running about $.47-.50 per lit re.

Option 3: If you want to take a bus directly to the Banff Springs Hotel from the airport, busses leave at the following times: 12:30 pm, 2:30 pm, 3:30 pm, & 6:00 pm. The price per person is $30 (Canadian) one way and the trip takes approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours, depending on the road conditions.

Option 4: If you are arriving at times other than the ones mentioned on the Options 1 and 3, and you would like to take a University of Alberta van, Mary Ann will arrange to have someone take groups of individuals at 10:00 am, 8:00 pm, and 12:00 midnight. If you are grouchy after a long trip, Mary Ann's students promise to take you to Banff anyway. If you choose this option, you must fax Mary Ann with your arrival time and name of airline by February 15. Mary Ann's fax number is 403/492-1318.

If you are coming from the U.S., there is an exchange counter at the airport but you will get a better deal at the bank in the U.S. or Banff. Canadians will, of course, take American money anytime, anywhere. Please remember to bring proof of identity. You will need a passport of birth certificate, driver's license, and voter registration card. You should check with your travel agent to be sure what you need to bring.

Since this is our 21st birthday celebration, I encourage you to bring pictures and programs from previous conferences for a display. Last year there was also a request for information about different teacher education programs we represent so please bring along brochures, program outlines, and course outlines.

For the Sunday night banquet, tickets will be on sale at the registration desk Friday evening and Saturday morning for significant others who are not registered at the conference. The Castle is ready and waiting, the hot springs are suitably hot, the mountains are suitably groomed, and the program has been superbly planned.

It is URGENT that you reserve your rooms immediately at the Banff Springs Hotel. Rooms will be "released" on the cut-off date of January 24, although Mary Ann is trying to negotiate for a short extension. Please phone your reservations at 403/762-2211.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mary Ann Bibby.
