Arrangements for 1997 Conference in Santa Fe

Just a reminder: You do not need a passport to visit Santa Fe unless you reside outside the United States. But when you arrive, you have arrived in the City Different!

For those planning to attend who have not yet registered or made their reservations at the Inn at Loretto - Please note that single/double occupancy rates will only hold until . After February 6, the rates revert to full cost. So instead of $105 per room, rates will become $185 per room. Call now and make your reservation! All reservation requests for arrival after 4 pm must be accompanied by a first night room deposit or be guaranteed with a major credit card prior to arrival. Any guaranteed rooms that do not arrive on the reservation date will be subject to a penalty of one night's room deposit plus tax and the remainder of your reservation will be canceled.

The ACE-DHH 23rd Annual Conference in Santa Fe promises attendees a step into the past in the oldest capital in the United States. The Inn at Loretto is built around the miracle staircase of the Loretto Academy and is a block away from the historic plaza where American Indians sell their crafts under the portal of the Governor's Palace. The ski basin is only 20 minutes away should conference attendees want to ski the slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains prior to or following the conference.

Santa Fe is located 60 minutes from the Albuquerque airport. Major airlines include Northwest, TWA, User, Southwest, Delta, Frontier, American, America West, Reno Air, and Mesa/United Express. Attendees flying into Albuquerque may use the Shuttle Jack from Albuquerque International Airport to the Inn at Loretto in Santa Fe. The cost is $20 each way. Reservations may be made with Shuttle Jack by phoning 505-982-4311. Shuttle Jack runs daily beginning at 6:40 am and ending with the last departure at 10:40 pm. Conferees staying at hotels other than the Inn at Loretto must have their hotel confirmation number in order to be dropped off at their hotel. To assure yourself a space on the shuttle, please make reservations 24 hours in advance.

The only airline flying directly into Santa Fe is the commuter airline, United Express. If you have a connecting flight in Denver, you may fly into Santa Fe using United Express.

If you wish to rent a car, rental agencies within Albuquerque International Airport include Advantage, Dollar, Thrifty, National, Budget, Alamo, Avis, and Hertz. For groups who want to travel to Taos or Chimayo, you might want to rent a car. Note, there is parking fee at the hotel of $2 per night. For attendees without a car, there is a Santa Fe Trails bus system and the Roadrunner which can take individuals to other areas of Santa Fe. However, the plaza area is quite complete with restaurants, museums, churches, and shops.

Fifty rooms at the Inn at Loretto have been reserved for members at a cost of $105 per night for single or double occupancy. Reservations can be made by mail (see the attached reservation form) or through the Inn's toll free number (1-800-727-5531). Be sure and give the group reservation number 4827and ask for the ACE-DHH conference rate.

If you care to arrive early or stay late, please advise the reservation personnel.. The Inn at Loretto will honor the conference rates several days prior to or following the conference if you make prior arrangements. Be sure to make your reservation by February 6 in order to be assured the conference rate. The New Mexico Legislature is in session until mid-March which places a high demand on hotel rooms at this time of year. Published rates may not apply and can go as high as $185 per night.

Graduate students who would like less expensive room accommodations can contact the New Mexico School for the Deaf. They have a few rooms available for Doctoral and Masters level students at a discount rate. Call 505-827-6711 and ask for Kim Corwin, assistant to the superintendent Dr. Vasishta.
