CED Program Accreditation

The CED accreditation of teacher education programs in deaf education is moving ahead full steam. Eight programs have been reviewed since January, and an additional 15 programs have received closure on previous reviews. At the present time 9 programs are carrying out 5-year reviews, and 23 program are working on 10-year reviews. In addition, 3 programs have lost their CED accreditation due to failure to carry out the review process.

The program review process, never easy, has been facilitated through the use of computer version of CED Manuals 1, 2, and 3. Programs now are encouraged to submit both paper and disk copiers of their reports. Eventually, the disk versions of the reports will be combined to form a database of program information. Those programs that contribute to the database will be allowed access to it.

As Director of the CED program review process, I would like to thank all of you for both your support and help. I also encourage you to use the CED accreditation process as an opportunity to share what you know, to learn what you need, and, above all, to improve the quality of preparation our students receive.
