READING
LEVEL ONE
- to identify upper and lowercase letters
- to recognize own name in print
- to predict events of a shared story using picture cues before and after reading
- to consistently demonstrate book handling skill
- to identify characters within a story
- to read quietly for 15 minutes a day
- to fingerspell 5 or more simple words
- to fingerspell classmate's name
- to recognize own name sign
- to recognize classmate's name sign
LEVEL TWO
- to integrate several cuing systems when reading texts
- to share prior knowledge during rereading activities
- to identify two or three traits of character in story
- to restate the sequence of events within a story
- to find words in beginning dictionary
- to read and follow simple directions
LEVEL THREE
- to identify a book as fiction or nonfiction
- to use a dictionary to verify spelling and extend meaning of words
- to stop at appropriate places while reading to confirm or alter previously made
predictions
- to locate resource related to class theme (book, encyclopedia, dictionary, film, interview)
- to follow a variety of written directions
