This reminds me of two wonderful books on self-esteem and children:

1. Teacher & Child by Haim Ginnott (I may have spelled this wrong -- it was from memory. He also has a book called Between Parent & Child)

2. How to Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk. (I don't remember the author.)
