TYPES OF SESSIONS

Interactive Demonstration - A 90-minute visual presentation of work, previously known as a poster session.  May be the most desired format for viewing media production.  It accommodates individual or small group sharing.  Participants may view several demonstrations during the 90-minute time block.

Contributed Research Paper - An opportunity to present research results, either empirical or descriptive.  The 45-minute time frame consists of 25 minutes for presentation and a 20-minute question and answer period.

Concurrent Session - A formal presentation of completed work or the sharing of innovative teaching strategies/materials.   The 45-minute time frame consists of 25 minutes for presentation and a 20-minute question and answer period.

Panel - A presentation by two or three speakers on a topic of general or specific interest.  The 60-minute session will include 15-20 minute presentations and a question and answer period.  Colleagues may propose a panel jointly or the program committee may request presenters with related topics to participate in a panel.

Selection of Papers for Presentations:  Members of the program committee review each abstract for possible use on the program.  The names of the contributors remain unknown to all persons making the ratings.  (The Program Committee chairperson will not rate the papers.)  Separate ratings will be summarized and disagreements among the raters will be discussed and resolved.  When final decisions are made, the need to present a balanced program, which relates to our theme "Best Practices in Deaf Education”, will be taken into account.  Presentations on the following trends are of special interest for this conference:

Early intervention
Deaf teachers in deaf education
Technology: computer technology and assistive listening devices
Literacy

A roundtable session will be included in the program to provide an opportunity for all participants to discuss the trends listed above.   Groups will focus on ways programs meet the needs and develop the competencies related to these trends.   More information about this session will be forthcoming.
