Qualifications:
-
holds (or is eligible or very soon to be eligible for) New Jersey
State Learning Disability Teacher Consultant certification
Summary of Work and Responsibilities:
-
conducts educational assessments and prepare written reports of findings;
-
presents evaluation results to parents, principals, instructional staff,
and district representatives;
-
provides recommendations for instructional strategies and remediation in
keeping with assessment findings;
-
assists teachers with accommodating students' cognitive abilities and learning
styles in the classroom;
-
provides workshops to staff as needed.
Knowledge and Skills Needed:
-
has good sign skills; fluency in written and oral English (caseload does
include students who require auditory speech/aural input combined with
sign);
-
knowledge of principles, techniques, and methods of administering and interpreting
educational testing instruments;
-
knowledge of the unique educational needs of deaf and hard of hearing students;
-
ability to evaluate deaf and hard of hearing students with learning difficulties
and to recommend specific remedial strategies;
-
ability to use technology effectively in assessment and reporting;
-
strong planning, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
