Term of Employment:
Annual employment contract based on the standard number of working
days in the academic year (currently 182 days, August to June), beginning
SY 2000/01. Excellent benefits.
Master's Degree in Deaf Education or related field from an accredited college
or university, with specialization in Science.
Must hold or be eligible for appropriate educator licensure in the State
of Colorado, endorsed in Special Education II-Severe Needs-Hearing, and
Experience teaching/working with students who are Deaf/HOH preferred.
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) at the Advanced skill level
as demonstrated by the Sign Communication Proficiency Interview (SCPI)
and according to school policy.
Summary of Work and Responsibilities:
This position reports to the Principal, School for the Deaf (High School),
and is responsible for providing instruction to high school students who
are Deaf/HOH in the content area of science.
Establishes high standards for what students must know and be able to do;
and provides assessments that measure whether students meet standards in
a safe and civil school environment.
Knowledge and Skills Needed:
Knowledge of and ability to apply current educational practices associated
with students who are Deaf/HOH.
Knowledge / skill in the areas of task analysis, assessment, behavior management,
organization/planning, curriculum development, parent relations and teamwork.
Ability to communicate effectively with Deaf children.
Ability to respond effectively and positively to feedback.
Ability to participate effectively in team setting.
Strong interpersonal skills.
