Conference call 11/16/00
Participants: Karen Dilka, Michelle Hoversten, Harold Johnson, Donna Mertens
Donna iterates that we need to capture the number(s) of cyber mentors that are being used this Fall 2000 semester by Harold and Karen. This will show the Feds that we are indeed beginning to utilize cyber mentors.
Karen reports that Donna Sorkin (AGBell) will be meeting with Pat Stone tomorrow and on their agenda is a discussion of this project.
Karen has spoken with Jonathon Ruhe who has confirmed that they recognize we have an approved no-cost extension and that our final report is not to be submitted until after our monies have been spent. Karen will complete her section including incorporating Donna’s evaluation section and will then forward the document to the Project Office for filing and subsequent completion when monies are expended.
Harold introduced an analysis, done previously under a federal personal prep grant, of 297 teaching and 348 non-teaching jobs posted to the Dead Ed. web site between 1996-1999. This analysis is the basis of a proposed presentation for the 2001 ACE-D/HH conference. Using the analysis, Harold has also drafted the employment section of our web site. He will (on this date) e-mail the draft to Maher Atwah (web site developer) and the Leadership Team for comments and suggestions.
Harold reports that the development work of our web site is still on schedule for going public in mid- to late-January.
Our server should be transferred from its current 10 MB switch to a 100 MB switch by December 1.
Karen proposes that we utilize a portion of our time slot to allow faculty to complete project related forms. Regional Directors can circle the room to provide assistance as needed. It is also suggested that we have a table set up at the conference, with Regional Directors manning it in rotating shifts, so that if a faculty person does not wish to attend a certain session s/he could come to the table and work on completing the form(s).
Karen will draft an agenda/structure for our time slot. We need to not only give an overview of the grant/project and have an evaluation update, but should have Regional Directors give short presentations on their regions (similar to what they presented in Cleveland) and allow for one or two presentations from each region on exemplary Choices. Regional Directors will be asked in the Project Office’s next weekly update to begin thinking about one or two people in their region whose project does or will shine.
The final case studies were burned onto CDs and Federal Expressed to the Case Study Team. CDs were mailed to the Project and Regional Directors and to Susan Easterbrooks.
Donna reports that the reviews by the Case Study Team are fairly consistent. They report the studies are simplistic but can be easily used. It was noted that two of the three studies did not portray a multi-cultural classroom and this should be rectified in future work.
Harold requested that the summary information be sent to Susan Easterbrooks for use in her work to create case studies under her approved Choice #8. Donna will do so.
Karen reports that she leaves December 5 for a family visit in Colorado.
Harold asked Donna for her input on the monthly reports being submitted by all and on the weekly Project Office updates being sent via e-mail. We seek to know if there is anything further or different we should be requesting or including for evaluation purposes. Donna will review these materials and give us feedback possibly next week.
Donna reports that she has been invited to join the core group for the PT3 project; this group will provide leadership for the evaluation of all PT3 grant projects. Only 12 people from across the country were invited to serve on this group. The group comes together December 4-5, 2001.
