How to Get Involved in this Grant

Everyone who attended the 2000 ACE-D/HH conference knows that we recently received the "Big One", i.e., a grant for ~$700,000 a year for three years.  In an effort to inform you about this most recent grant award, I have uploaded the following information to the ACE-D/HH Web site (http://deafed.educ.kent.edu).  Under the heading "Catalyst Grant" you will find: a) one page grant abstract, b) the complete grant, c) an organizational chart, d) the "Menu of Choices", and e) a faculty Choice Pre-proposal form.

This is truly a HUGE grant, as such I will not try to explain it all here, but I would like to share with you the following:

1.  The country has been divided up into "Regions" - the following colleagues will serve as "Regional Directors":

Alan Marvelli - Northeast (Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire & Maine)

·         413-585-3050 (office)

·         413-586-3756 (fax)

·         amarvell@smith.edu

Katharine Slemenda - Southeast (Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia & Alabama)

·         864-596-9080 (office)

·         864-596-9526 (fax)

·         katharine.slemenda@converse.edu

Sue Rose and Joyce Daugaard - North Central (North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa & Illinois)

·         612-624-6387 (office)

·         612-626-9627 (fax)

·         srose@tc.umn.edu Sue Rose

·         dauga001@tc.umn.edu Joyce Daugaard

Sharon Baker - South Central (Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas, Wyoming, Colorado, Montana & New Mexico)

·         918 631-2910 (office)

·         bakers@utulsa.edu

Note:  Larry Hawkins has accepted the position as Superintendent of the Oklahoma School for the Deaf.  As a result, he had to resign as a “Regional Director” for this grant.  OSD is fortunate to have Larry.

Dee Klein - Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, California & District of Columbia)

·         724-357-5677 (office)

·         412-793-7669 (home & fax)

·         deeklein@grove.iup.edu

2.  To get involved with this grant you need to:

a)      go to the ACE-D/HH Web site (http://deafed.educ.kent.edu);

b)      look at and/or print the grant "Abstract";

c)      find "Regional Director" you are to work with – this information can be found above or on the “Organizational Chart”

d)      look at and/or print out the "Menu of Choices" - see which menu items you might incorporate into your classes/program.  (Note: for each item you select, you will receive $$$);

e)      review the faculty Choice Pre-proposal form;

f)        contact the "Regional Director" responsible for your state – s/he will explain the grant to you and help you to decide which "Menu Choices" to choose;

g)      complete and submit a completed faculty Choice Pre-proposal form for EACH Choice you choose (this can be done on-line!).

That's it...that is all you have to do participate on this latest grant
